What a session can look like
This is one example of a 90 minute session. Real sessions are structured around what the player in front of me actually needs, so the balance shifts depending on their age, position, and what we are working to fix.
Warm up on the ball
Movement and touches together. The ball is out from minute one.Ball mastery blocks
Timed work on control, both feet, close dribbling, turning under pressure.1v1 and finishing
Beating a defender, striking clean, decisions at speed.Game application
Putting the session into live play, plus what to work on before next week.Every player leaves with something specific to do on their own. That homework is where most of the progress actually happens.
Who runs it
I coach my own daughter in the Dripping Springs Academy setup and I play in the adult game most weeks, so you will see me on the same fields your kid is on. I coached full time in California before moving here, and I have trained players who went on to Division I programs.
My approach comes down to one thing. The relationship with the ball is built, not born. Nobody is born with a good first touch. It is put in through repetition, and that is what these sessions are for.
Technique is where we start, but it is not where we stop. As a player grows we work on decision making, reading the game, movement off the ball, and the confidence to try things under pressure. The goal is a complete player, not a player with one good trick.
